1.Baton Rouge Theme Song - Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor

 

This upbeat blues tune pays homage to the band's hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In 2017, the city will celebrate its Bicentennial, as the official date of incorporation according to various sources was January 16, 1817. It is fast becoming the official song for the event.

Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor are well known for developing an intricate and syncopated style of music that is referred to Louisiana reggae, blues, soul and funk. As a ‘gumbo’ of styles, Turner’s lyrics are known for their humorous twists and upbeat nature. Henry Turner Jr. was named an official Louisiana Music Ambassador in 2014 for a concert appearance in southern California. In 2015 the Mayor-President proclaimed October 28, Henry Turner Jr. Day and in 2016, he and the band performed a month long series of concerts at the Old U.S. Mint in New Orleans for the State of Louisiana’s Music Archives.  

2. Dark Waters - Step Child

The haunting rocker was composed at Sober Moses Studio in Baker, Louisiana after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. This current storm that had no name, clearly shows all of us that it can happen again and Dark Waters will be forever understood by those affected, both good and bad.

Dee Dee Hill and Mike Simmons form the basis for the band Step Child with Hill on guitar and vocals and Simmons on bass. A fixture on the Baton Rouge club circuit they have been performing for more than thirty years.  

3. Move - April Jackson

Get up off your seat and up on your feet and just groove, groove, groove to this catchy upbeat dance number.

April "Sexy Red" Jackson is a Southern Diva with a powerhouse voice that makes crowds stand on their feet. Born and raised in the heart of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she started her singing journey at a very early age and continues to WOW crowds.

4. Stupid Love - Nukie Miller

This mid-tempo ballad is about a woman who’s in love, but doesn’t want to be.

Blues and soul singer, Nukie Miller, got her first shot at fame in 1998 when she won Talent Tuesday, hosted by radio personality Guy Brody, in Baton Rouge. She has gone on to release several CD’s and garnered airplay on numerous Louisiana blues stations.

5. Get Your Shine On - Ras Wayne Vicks

Southern soul/R&B classic sound about a guy who wants to prove to the world that he can be impressive.

Ras Wayne Vicks’ musical family comes from Thibodaux, Louisiana. His father earned his living as an upright bass player and lead singer, while his brothers and sisters were all talented vocalists. The former lead singer of the reggae band Higher Heights he has toured on the Bob Marley Festival circuit and performed at the House of Blues and at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

6. Football-Billy Averett

One of Louisiana’s favorite pastimes in rockabilly fashion.

Country rocker Billy Averett began his professional career at the age of eight performing with his father at the Old South Jamboree in Walker, Louisiana with the Averett Brothers Band. He released two singles in the late 1980’s and his piano playing style is reminiscent of Jerry Lee Lewis. Averett also toured extensively in the United States as part of the Vegas Gold Legends in Concert.  

7. Just Another Woman - Dusty Lightfoot Cashio

A classic soul sound love song in old school Percy Sledge style, traditional Louisiana music.

Blues belter Dusty Lightfoot Cashio’s portrait and hat hang in the Robert Johnson Blues Museum in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. In the 70’s and 80’s she toured 150 cities in the United States and several foreign countries on The Outlaw Tour. She is also a recipient of a Bronze Halo Award from the Southern California Motion Picture Council. Ms. Lightfoot Cashio currently resides in Central, Louisiana.

8. Louisiana Boy- Anita Raze Averett                          

This Cajun country rocker is about growing up in the “Sportsman’s Paradise,” fishing and hunting for alligators, frogs and snakes.

The Denham Springs, Louisiana singer/songwriter and keyboard player, Anita Raze Averett, claims her musical roots as a descendent of Stephen Foster who is considered the “Father of American Songwriters.” As lead singer she has worked with several family bands and performed tribute acts to contemporary country artists Patsy Cline and Tricia Yearwood.  

9. Steppin’ (Remix) - D Whit

A party dance song about having fun after working hard and showing off a little for the ladies.

Southern soul artist, D-Whit gained fame as a choreographer, dancer and backup vocalist with icons of the entertainment industry, such as Brittany Spears, Joe, Destiny’s Child and Usher. The Baton Rouge based entertainer is currently performing regionally in support of his current releases.  

10. Big Daddy’s Home (Clean Version) - Lee Tyme

This blues rap song highlights a period in a man's life when he wants to be more committed to the responsibilities of manhood.

Lee Tyme has developed a style of music that he calls ‘blues rap,” that is smooth vocals over bluesy rhythms. His distinct combination of genres is contemporary, upbeat and a real crowd pleaser.

11. Bedroom Relationship-Champagne Coleman

The mid-tempo dance song is about a relationship that is going nowhere.

Blues and soul singer, Champagne Coleman has graced many southern stages as a backup singer for the late, great Jackie Neal. A Baton Rouge native she is now taking her turn to step in front of an audience as a lead singer and songwriter.

12. 2 Many Women- Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor

The light hearted reggae/soul/funk tune touches upon the temptations associated with stardom and seductive female fans.
