Baton Rouge Soul Food Festival Criteria and Judging Regulations

 

Categories:                    

Entrees (Beef, Pork, Poultry and Fish)

Vegetables and Side Dishes

(i.e. Greens, Okra, Tomatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Mac and Cheese, etc.)

Breads and Desserts

Appetizers, Soups, Miscellaneous

(i.e. Gumbo, Salads, Pork Rinds, etc.)  

Beverages and Ices

Criteria:  Presentation

                  Taste

                  Story/History Behind the  Creation of the Dish

 

Regulations:                 

Each entrant must bring their dish with them to the festival the day of the judging

Festival will confirm day and time closer to the event

Entrants must prepare enough food for 6 people in Styrofoam boxes that are labeled with their name and category for which they will be judged

Call for Entries:  Closes when ten slots in each category are filled

​

Rules:   Each entrant must state the category for which they are applying, send in a copy of the recipe and a brief history about their dish

Entrants will be pre-screened by the selection committee

Upon acceptance they will be charged the entry fee

Entries may be moved to another category at the discretion of the selection committee

There will be no refunds of entry fees after acceptance

 All foods must be home cooked and made from scratch

Pre-packed recipes will be automatically disqualified

Cost:     $20 per entry

Walk-Up/Day of Event: $30 per entry (if slots are available)

 

Prizes:  The competition will have First, Second and Third Prizes (to be determined) in each category
